Fuel filter leaking after install
 

I installed a new fuel filter in my new 1980 911 sc. The bottom nut is leaking gas. I am guessing that the compression fitting (line to filter) is not aligned right, and am going to try again.

Any tricks or tips about how to get this in right? Also, the fittings on the old filter did not work on the new one I had ( different size threading on fllter. I found two fittings ( from PO fuel filer spare) that seem to work fit with the filter and compression nut, but could be a culprit too.

I am trying different fittings now. The new filter I bought did not fit the old fittings, and I found another new filter where the fittings match.

Just be careful to use the proper fuel pipe/brake line wrench and insure it is not too loose or it will round out that fuel line brass fitting. It takes a specific torque to insure a leak free connection.

Many of us have rounded out that fuel line nut.

Also because it's a hard line, I found that you need to loosen BOTH ends when changing out the filter (ie also the end on the accumulator).

1. Loosen both nuts
2. Align the hard line so that the compression area is lined up on both sides.
3. Hand tighten the nuts, then gently tighten using the fuel line wrench.
4. Test the system, then final tighten if any leaks.

Cover the area around with rags and paper towels for the test. Dispose of rags properly obviously.

Needless to say, but wear gloves and goggles :D

Thanks for the responses. Got the leak to stop, but may do what 75 911s said since I could not mount the bracket due to misalignment of the hard line.
