Resurrecting an old thread. Attempting a similar project on my 84.

85911, what hardware did you use to attach the straps to the parcel shelf?

These seem like they will take a lot of "pull" from the seat backs, so assuming they need to go into the firewall, but not sure.

Bit of advice for anyone doing this project:

Get a black leather belt, cut to size. You can buy new snaps at most hardware stores.

I found an old belt in my closet.

Best picture I could find:

I'm changing the straps on my '84 Targa, and was wondering how you were able to get the nails out of the strap on the seatback? The nails on mine are really tight and I'm not able to get under them with a screwdriver.

Wow, this is a bit of a throwback...

I can't say that I remember how I got the nails out... mainly because I don't remember anything about how the strap was attached.

Can you post a picture? I can probably remember if I see a pic.

Of course, you asked this three weeks ago so you may have already figured this out.

I had a shoe repair place make the straps and he had snaps that matched stock perfectly.

Nick, what did you use to pull the tacks out of the strap on the seatback? The carpet is pretty fragile from age, and I’ve pulled it back at the edge to expose the tacks. The tacks are nailed in pretty deep and I can’t get under them to pull them out. I don’t have much room to work with since I’m afraid if I try to pull the carpet back too far it’s going to fall apart.

I’ll upload a pic when I have time.
