Mounting old fan on new engine compartment blower

The heater blower in my engine compartment was totally shot, so I bought the replacement part from our host - the motor only, without fan. I pulled the fan from my old unit before the new one arrived, and now I'm unsure what hardware it used besides a nut and lock washer, if anything.

The new motor came with a nut, a lock washer, two ordinary flat washers, and another washer with an angled inner diameter that sits over the split ring on the motor shaft. What I found is that the only way I can mount my old fan is using only the nut and lock washer. If I add any of the other three flat washers, the nut can't thread all the way.

I set it up this way and it does seem to work, but I'm always wary when I have "parts left over." Those of you who have done this, how did you mount the fan?

Funny..I have just done the same thing!

I installed the new motor without all of the new washers etc.
used the original nut and washer with a dab of lock-tight for good measure
and all is well
