I haven't ever noticed a flat spot with radial tires. How long does a car have to set for a radial tire to flat spot?

The 40" bias ply Monster Mudders on my Dodge in the 80s would flat spot in a few days.

You shouldn't need them with modern tires. Just put a bit of extra air in the tires before storing the car for longer periods.

I was worried about this before a 6 month deployment years ago. I just put the car on 4 jack stands and left it with the battery disconnected.

When I got back I connected the battery, lowered the car and went for a drive. No flat spots, no dead battery.

my Bridgestone S02s flatspot in a week or so but seem to go back to roundish with use. The first drive after a week or two is always wobbly. Never noticed with previous tires

I believe the idea here is to be able to drive on to this these without the need to jack the car and support it on jack stands. Additionally, some believe that a un-supported suspension is detrimental.
I have Michelin Sports 225/50-16 and they definitely develop flat spots that take a few miles to round out.
Looking for a possible answer. The car sets a lot, my fault.

Most tires that flat spot have nylon belts. No nylon, no flat spots. Many extreme high performance tires will have a nylon top or cap belt. This is because nylon tends to contract when hot, and this tends to help keep the tire from growing due to centrifugal force at very high speeds.

I agree with Arne & other - I would get flat spots on the Cayman with high performance tires, if it sat for a week, but on the 911 I am running summer tires, never notice it.

Remember, just because a tire looks good, doesn't mean it is good to go at speed. There are numbers on your tires that give the manufacturing date. Once they get to be over five years old or so, replace them. That's no joke.

Fortunately, tires for our cars are relatively affordable. Make sure yours are safe. Flatstoppers are great, but if you don't know how old your tires are, check.

i lot of tires flat spot even over night. I would like to think it is the cheaper ones like the kumhos that do it the most which I know first hand do it. after a few miles they are ok again.
