Question What are factory shop manuals worth?

I have a line on volumes 1-4 of the factory shop manuals for my 84 Targa. What are these worth?

Also, I always thought the set was 5 volumes. Am I correct? If so, what's in volume 5 (the seller says volume 1 is engine, 2 transmission, 3 chassis, heating and a/c, and 4 body and electrics)?

Thanks for the help.

Volumes V Wiring '87 on. My earlier manuals ('72 on) have 4 volumes. Make sure you are getting the "Carrera" manuals.

Chris: Do you think the set for 84 only has 4 volumes? What's the set of 4 worth used? Seller says very good condition, with some smudges.

I'm drawing a total blank on what's in each binder, but I have 4 red, 2 silver and a turbo supplement for my '79

Looks like 5 volumes for the 84-89 cars.

They are on perpetual backorder though.

Here's the poop:

Vol 1 and Vol 2 (large!)...for 1965 through 1971
Vol 3 through 6 ( 4 volumes)...1972 through 1983
Five volume "Carrera" set ( 1984-89) ...at first was a four volume set.

New...from places like "MY" Porsche...about $190 for both 1 and 2
...about $400 for vol 3-6...about $400-$500 for Carrera 5 volume set...or close to $1000-$1100 for the 11 volume set.

Still trying to sell my 1972-83 repro Xerox set (one set only!), used as a "clean" set with no fingerprints.

Wil: Did the four volume set expand to five volumes? In other words, did they take some subjects out of the first four volumes, and put them into a fifth volume?

I just want to be sure I have everything I need in the four volumes.

Thanks.

ScottB:
Bruce Anderson's first book identifies the Carrera set as a four volume set...and his later revision to his performance book calls this out as a five volume set. I've always seen it as a 5 volume set, myself.

Oh, another thing....
from the way the 5 volume set is packaged, I'd imagine that the last volumes ( electrical? as I recall) may have simply added the diagammatics of the later build-years...I don't know, as I've never seen a 4 volume set. Plus, to get the real info you need, you would be best off using the entire 11 volume set, as the later volumes build upon the early versions. Get the Bentley manual , too, and you'll likely be all ( mostly) set.

It's far too complicated...and expensive (I think). I'll stick with 101 Projects and Bentley. Anything beyond that will probably go to the "wrench." Thanks.
