Recommend me some adjustable Sway Bars
Hi Guys,
I have 77 911 with the following set up: Turbo Fuchs 16 x 7 and 16 x 9 Standard Anti-roll swaybars Standard front torsion bars believed to be 19mm Up-rated rear torsion bars to 29mm (I can't be 100% as it was a few years ago) Bilstien Sport dampers Strut brace Slightly lowered to level the car Laser aligned Corner balanced on a table The car was proven to be very straight and wighed in at just over 1060kg or something near. I woulds like some adjustable anti-roll or sway bars so I can tune the turn in. Currently I am finding the car touch understeery with a definitive pitch on harder turn in. This just a fast road car. I looked at the WEVO site for bars but almost spat my coffee at the screen so if you guys know of options I'd appreciate it.

ive only had smart bars and they were very good. not the cheapest option, but one of the best IMO.

In addition the sways that the above member recommended, I would also look at the Tarett sway bars - fully adjustable and great quality. I've included a link below, please let us know if you have any questions.

I would also recommend Tarett. Best sway bars on the planet!

The new Eibach ones look really nice too. Not sure if they're fully available yet.
I run a non-adjustable big Addco front (stock underbody mounting style, but 22.22mm) and a stock rear on my car. I've got a large mystery rear sway in the garage that I've thrown on a few times, but it always comes back off pretty quick.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. They look very similar to the Elephant Racing bars, which are around the same price. Has anyone tried Elephant Racing swaybars? Just trying to get a view before putting my money down.

To the best of my knowledge WEVO does not sell swaybars. Not sure what you were looking at that made you spit your coffee :-)

If you've truly got 19 mm front/29 mm rear torsion bars, that is the source of your issue and it will be hard to adjust out that amount of difference in roll stiffness with sway bars. One thing you might try is removing your rear sway bar altogether and see what that feels like.
Also, 911s naturally exhibit low-speed understeer. This transitions to neutrality at high speeds (if you're fortunate). I found that the only real solution to low speed understeer was increasing the front tire width (245s finally made it feel nice).

Alignment work can also help with low speed balance. Reducing rear toe to 1/16" total on my AX car helped a TON, and maxing out the front caster minimizes camber loss with steering angle. A tough of rear toe out up front can speed up initial turn in at the expense of high speed stability - the car will wander slightly on the freeway.
When speeds rise you get more lateral load so the swaybars get more say, as ^ this guy says.

Looks like I am going Tarret from the host. Lets see if I can dial out a little of this pitch I don't like.
You know you're 100% correct... I was looking at a front bar for near $1000 so was a touch surprised. Now I need to find that site..

The new Eibach bar has 6 holes so you have 5 lengths to choose from. Cost me $140 at the Eibachtoberfest.

I'm with some others and would look at the torsion bar size imbalance. I thought the original fronts were 18's?

I like a 19mm/29mm torsion bar setup more than I like 22mm/29mm....
I am a 21mm/30mm fan!

My car is an odd duck. I've got 21mm in the front and my stock bars plus a 3 spring coilover stack in the rear. The springs are 150#, 80#, 4# with the 80# spring being the real addition to the bars.the goal was 29mm equivalent, but who knows. The 150# spring is basically a bumpstop. Having installed the new rear sway I've sold my 21mm front T-bars and am now ordering 22mm. I think that is the balance I am looking for. Will also dial in more negative camber while it's in the air.

With the 911 torsion bar data available from the Instant G web site.
Along with the the Sway Away web site - spring rate calculator you can figure out the totals for each end of the car. I plotted my 25 mm Tarret sway bar lever arm settings in half inch increments and went from there to try for a 60/40 overall ratio. |
