My ex-German wife in a 911 could keep up with most of the guys and was not afraid of anything. On the way back from the Monaco F1 race a few years ago we traded seats back and forth and were dicing with other Pcars, Ferrari's and Lambo's for over 10 hours on the drive back North at speeds of 140 mph plus. She ate it up and liked it as much as I did...

Was doing a "Phoenix Pelican" run last fall in the mountains around FLagstaff and Prescott with the local gang and I got into a bit of dicing with a C4 in the mountains. A good 15 minutes of steady curves and the driver in front was not making it easy for me to keep up, not to mention passing.

We stopped after that for lunch and a nice looking lady got out of the drivers seat and smiled. If she has not been with someone I would have gotten her phone number for sure. Cute, knows what kind of car to drive and knows how to handle it and takes no prisoners... my kind of girl! Wish there were more like her...

Joe

She can obviously drive, but her actions around the bikes were frightening. It's amazing that she didn't take one of them out.

"I wish we had a track like the RING here in the States but they would never allow such a GREAT set up.. to bad!

Eric"

i think the ring is kind of self policing. On the Schauinsland hill climb road, the government has banned bikes on the weekends, too many accidents, and too green politics.
i think it is a matter of time till the RIng is closed, or at least tamed.

Sabine Reck is very well known in the Racing scene and grew up in a small village beside the Ring . She won the 24 Hrs. ( Diesel Class) in a Diesel BMW 525 . She drives a Ring- Taxi and you can have a ride for 40 $ .
The BMW has to be changed every Year because it is Weak , she takes it to the Limit ,but knowing it at the same Time .
She knows pretty much what she is doing ,if you have a chance
take a ride with her you will never forget .

I spent three days at the 'Ring with the BMW club with the BMW high performance driving school and from my view, I think she was driving pretty well and not really pushing too hard at all. I didn't see the car get airborne at all which my instructor managed to do 3.5 times (all four wheels three times, just two wheels the other time) in one lap in a rental Mercedes. An M5 should be able to do it at least as many.

Some moves were not perfect (the white car missed the apex by three feet and turned in too early at Hatzenbach 2 because that is a late apex to a single arc line to get both corners -- that's why the dust), Hoheichen is really slippery but got back on line pretty well, and I thought the move at the bottom of Fuchsrohe was great to get around the biker and get back on line was great. That whole section is steeply downhill and really fast -- to pull off that move at the bottom of the hill to make that corner was really nice. The M5 got off-line in Adenauer Forest to get around the bikers but that is a really slow second gear corner. The exit to that corner leads onto a long straight so if she waited she would have screwed up the exit -- notice the following car pulled right up at the exit. Plus the bike was way off line -- the line on the first of the two corners is very late and the M5 tried to pinch it.

Anyhow, I thought it was pretty good and not reckless at all by Ring standards. Trying to keep 14.5 miles of track and 171 corners per lap straight in your mind is not easy. You can get lost on this track unless you really memorize it (Hmm, does the next one go left or right??? Yipes, left!)

I would never feel bad for the bikers at the Ring -- those guys are far more crazy than any other group. They swarm all over you if you are going anything less than flat out so be careful if you are just going for a lap in the Hertz-mobile. When you pay for your ticket (about $10), they let everyone out at the same time (Fiats, BMWs, Ferraris, tour buses etc.) so you just have to dial back a bit. Many of the corners are blind and fast (especially the one at the bottom of Fuchsrohe, and the one leading onto the section up to Klostertal) andyou can come flying out of a corner to find a tour bus going 25MPH sitting in the middle of the road. The rule about not lifting is particularly important because there is no room for error on this track. The turn in early at Kallenhard and that outside guardrail comes up very quickly (lift and your dead here) as it is only about three feet from the track out point (ask me how I know).

After three days, we didn't blow up the car or crash. I wish I could say the same for some of our classmates. It was a great experience and I am going back as soon as finances permit and I can talk KeithO64 into it.

Hello

Sabine had married and is now Sabine Schmitz.
http://www.wdr.de/tv/menschen-hautnah/archiv/2000/11/13.phtml
Think she still lives in Bergheim.

Here Homepage is: http://www.bauauftraege-bautenschutz.de/sabine/index2.html

Now the BMW used as Ringtaxis are a own story. They are said to be complete stock ( remember the ALMS M3 was a stock car ? ).
Ringtaxis are replaced anually and then have some 25-40000 km´s on the odometer. Thats comperable with some 2-400000 km on normal streetuse.

Grüsse

I tryed to watch the clip but after 10 minutes of " buffering " I

I am sure she is a great driver but she didn't appear to be very smooth to me and she pulled a few pretty unsafe passes to boot. Sure looked like fun though.

She had a little trouble finding the apex, however, she was not talking on the cell phone.

Interesting.

Which car's breakes are squealing?

Anyone know how many serious crashes occur at the Ring? I assume it is a public road and it appears you would be putting your life in everyone's hands by stepping out on that pavement.

That said, I'd love to take a run at it!

I wonder about the squeling too? Is it the stock brakes that are on their limit or is it because the brake pads are racing spec. thus noisy?

Jandrews
There are a lot of accidents at the Nürburgring. I've been told that there is a video with all sorts of accidents recorded over time. I think it's called "Rapsodie in Blech".....? I've searched all over internet for this, but have found nothing Perhaps the spelling isn't correct?

The video is over 100MB, so it will take you ice aged phone line guys a long time...

It's best to download and save and then watch.

My take on the brakes is that the GT3 has some really tough pads.

Sabine (w)Reck, she's cute and will put a lot of men to shame. She raced a factory BMW Super Touring Car here in South Africa until she broke her leg in a nasty accident in Cape Town - after being helped into the wall.

I remember her telling me how committed you need to be to do a decent lap of Nurburgring. She is actually a very nice person, a PR dream.

Her parents own a hotel on the track and she has been driving around the place since she was knee high to a grasshopper.
