If you don't plan on re-using them, cut them off with a drimmel.

I used one of these "bearing splitters".

Thanks. Yeah I’m not reusing 1st. The remainder will be removed and most likely reinstalled as they are in good condition. I have some various pullers but wanted to give this a shot first before moving forward.

Why pull off the good ones? Not logical.

Yep if they're in good condition, there's no reason to pull them off because you're disturbing the press fit and the "peening" that is done at the factory to secure the ring to the male cogs on the gear

Habit I guess. The box everything came out of was pretty funky so pulling everything apart to clean/inspect made sense. I have a set of new ones coming to compare the old ones too. They don’t appear to be blunted over. But if I decide to replace they already have been removed.

Support the gear by the ring then Carefully heat the ring . The gear will fall out by itself.

Hi Toco..
the rule applies here..." if it ain`t broken why fix it....."
One oldtimer 911 mechanic once showed me how to remove the dog teeth-rings..simple -hammer and nice sharp chisel. The ring will pup out easy.
If your other dog teeth are ok do not bother with them as John W.said

George..
no way you should heat up the dog teeth`s while on the gear. This only apply on installation procedure.

So how did you do it? My long story is that I have new dog teeth on 1-4 that were installed a few years go, but the box was never assembled. Now I've decided that 1st-3rd gears have wear and should be replaced (I've procured replacements).

I need to remove the brand new dog teeth without damaging them so I can re-install them on the new gears.

Do I need to worry about this if I use the proper tools?

Mark
