It’ll be difficult to get an exact match on a metallic paint finish. You might want to settle for close. I’d even consider trying a rattle can from Automotive Touchup to see if it might be acceptable to you before paying a body shop.

I had my local shop scan 3 areas on my guards red car.
They made a large rattlecan and bottle for me. I was respraying all my lower valence to cover up the worn areas. Matched perfectly. I know it's over shutz and not metallic so may be an easier match. Someone's gotta be able to do that on the west coast.

I'm finding the same problem with my guards red 75 911 on the central coast in CA. I can't find anyone who wants to take on the job for a reasonable price.

Ran me around $60; brought my TR6 trunk lid in and they did the same thing.
They must have a scanner, no other way to properly match older faded paint. What were they quoting you?

I've been told $500 for the decklid. This included filling several holes from the 930 whale tail that used to be on it.

I'd love to find such a place to make me a rattle can and scan my car. I've got a new-to-me decklid for my Targa (to replace the whale tail) and just got an estimate from a well-regarded shop here in the DC-metro area - on a full strip, skim, blocking, refitting, ensuring the latch works, etc. it could be $1,000, but minimum is ~$500. Trying a DIY solution for $60 sounds like a good bet to me, I can always go the $$ route later.
Anyone know of such a shop in the D.C. area? Quote:

Your results on a big area with a rattle can would not be great.
$500 to just bring them the lid and you fit it would probably be worth it.

If it's any consolation, it's going to be a good investment in your car and you won't regret it!

PS - the appropriate 911 SC or Carrera (can't tell which yours is) emblem would really set it off, too. The rest of the car looks pretty nice - paint is nice and the panel alignment looks good too.

BTDT - I had the same problem around Philly, I needed someone to shoot my lid and tail, and none of the 4 recommended shops would touch it. At least there were 3 that said "no" out of the gate, but one jerk kept stringing me along.
I lucked out big time and found a local Pelicanite (Matt aka 'Fixer') that offered to do both, and he had me accompany him to a reputable paint supplier/distributor, where I learned first-hand that the paint alone isn't cheap. The match was a little off and he was more unsatisfied than I was (b/c his personal standards are high), but I knew my venetian blue metallic would be a big challenge, so I was prepared. It turned out great, and since I have the original (with its patina) saved, I am happy. IIRC, you have the original with tail, so keep looking and good luck.

You just have to find the right guy and sounds like you may have. My guy in San Diego matched the old paint on my car by eye. He’s done many jobs for me. A scan with a spectrophotometer is often most accurate but I’ve seen more than once where the camera’s computer formula still needs to be adjusted by the human eye and checked in various natural light situations.
