1979 Porsche 930 turbo

please anybody? just wondering, above the gastank there are two raised area's for a vin # on my US 1/50 - 1979 930 turbo there is none. I think it should be on the left side for the 1979 on my 1984 the vin # is on the right side.

Thanks & appreciated any help in this matter

When the VIN got longer it was moved off the raised area to the right raised area. Sample picture is in my garage, 82 930.

I had to go look. My '79 930 has the VIN stamped in the raised area.
The VIN didn't get longer (17 digits) until 1981 If I remember correctly.
By the way, What do mean by " US 1/50 - 1979 930 turbo"? Are you saying there were only 50 us 930s and you have one of them?

In 1979 as Porsche was ending the US production run of 1979 930 Turbos they produced their last 50 cars VINs 9309801150-9309801200- since there were 50 cars available & roughly 300 dealers Porsche grouped the dealers in a sales contest over a 3 month period & if you won your group you got to pick your colors on one of the last 50 cars which sold for a premium over the MSRP.

So what number was yours? I had 1176 and one of the guys on Rennlist has 1200.

All '79 US 911/930 Porsches have the VIN stamped in the raised area as displayed in the 3rd thread by 3stewartS. The same number is also readily found on the left door jamb Mfg Sticker and the VIN Plate located on the left A pillar.

I was looking at the Vin # associated with my car and came across this link:

Simon's Porsche 911 SC Site

I think it is saying there were 1200 930 made for the U.S. in 1979. In 1978 there were 461.

Here’s mine:

Can we learn more about your 930 or do you have photos you can post?

Most of the last 50 appear to be missing the certificate/dash plaque.

There's quite a bit on the late-79’s on these threads:

1982 PCA Parade in Reno : James Dorfman entered his red and tan last 50 turbo in the national concours. The car came trailered with several car covers top and bottom, plastic bag, and the wheels/ tires separated from the car. His valet assisted him in setting up the car for an impressive display in the main hall, with carpeting, display stand, a fire exitinguisher the size of a small suv, and James attired in a white full length lab coat. He did not win, and neither did we (our red 77 930 was entered in its first ever concours judging and boy ,oh boy, did we learn a lot; out last PCA concours ;-) )
The class was won by a lilac blue 930 prepped by Jim Newton out of Ct.
Last 50 cars had a LOT of 1980 details. Our December production blue 930 had the same 80 my details, but not a last 50 vin

I misunderstood your question too. And I'm still unclear.
Are you asking why the '84 is not stamped in the "rasied area"? or
Is your '79 not stamped in the "raised area"?

I have no answer to either question But I'm certain many Pelicans do.

Cool story - I'd love to see photos of the car. I'll bet it still had the original Pirelli P-7's installed. I've been able to locate about 20 of the last 50 cars based on an Internet search over the last few years.

It would be interesting to see photos of this car that was advertised in Robb Report in 1984 - black with a red interior.
