DME relay plug find

Today, I ran into something I thought I would share. I am installing a Megasquirt on my 86 and will be tapping into the DME relay socket using pins from another socket I had "in stock". What I found was the pin fit in the socket was surprisingly loose. Somehow the pin receptors in the socket have become somewhat enlarged. Now I never experienced any issues but I could envision an intermittent connection making trouble that would be hard to trace. A simple fix was opening the plug and folding the circular pin receptors just a tad. Perhaps over 33 years, the wiring harness moved just enough to enlarge them. I never would have found this by plugging the relay (with it's 6 pins) in, it was only by inserting individual pins into the socket that it became apparent.

I had exactly this problem with a pin in the plug and socket in the 4 pin connector for the fuel injectors in my '86, causing a very intermittent cut out at around 5000 - 5500 rpm that acting like a rev limiter. And yes, extremely difficult to trace. A very experienced tech finally found it after opening the connector and checking each pin.
