WTB BROKEN 997TT or gt3 6spd
Well I bought a "COMPLETE" disassembled 997TT transmission on here a while back. Well guess what, it wasn't complete. I"m trying to assemble part #s, but what might be easiest and possibly lower price point is to buy a broken complete transmission. One from a wreck or such. My case and gears look wonderful, but there is multiple shifting parts missing.
If you have something, let me know. I haven't had the chance to cross reference the 6/7 transmissions to see what all is actually interchangeable as I'm just aware of the improvements Porsche made with gear strength. I know this is a stretch on PP, but I've posted on h20 pumper heavy sites too :D But I know those like M Monson visit here and may have such laying around collecting dust. Cheers Luke |
There's nothing cross compatible between a 997TT and a GT3 gearbox other than the LSD. The 997TT uses triple ring synchros on all gears, and is about 30mm longer over all as a result. If you are going to assemble that case, you must get only 997TT parts.
Unfortunately I've got nothing. I stopped doing any kind of service work on the boxes before that one came out. Bill Rader and CMS do most of the high power high performance work on them. |
Bill Rader in Las Vegas might be able to help.
I dropped of my 915 trans to him for a rebuild and toured his shop. He had many Porsche trans, from 915 to the latest/greatest water cooled GT3 trans it seemed... also works on Audi and Lamborgini boxes for various race teams. Services |
Thanks for the thoughts and responses. Appreciate the insight on TT/gt3 box differences. I am obviously not turning the wrenches on the box. I actually thought the boxes were similar with just completely different gear stacks and mainshafts. Its at a local Porsche shop but I am simply trying to run down some parts to attempt to keep this within a relative budget for a back up transaxle.
One more question Matt, if I still have your attention. MY 6GT2? is it more gt3 or 6tt inside the trans? |

It's a GT3 gearbox (with pump and cooler) but with 996TT gear ratios inside. Will also have steel synchros in 3-6 like a GT3. And of course an LSD, which the 996TT usually doesn't have. |
