New targa window stop problems
 

I have a targa from 1980 where I have changed the rubber window stop at the top of the side windows A-frame.

A rather cumbersome process where one of the ends will be assembled with copper rivets.

My problem is that the holes for the two screws at the other end of the sleeve fit very badly with the holes in the frame, and the frame is therefore skewed in the assembly by a few millimeters. It annoys my eye.

Are there any who have experience with thar and can give good advice on how I get it right, and also about how I can easily get the rivets out without destroying the frame if I take them out to try again.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1521371785.JPG

Did you buy factory or SM aftermarket?

The two sets I've done factory fits perfectly, the one set of SM I got wouldn't fit either set.

I also recently replaced mine and found that the SM ones did not line up correctly, but the factory ones did. Just be sure to properly adjust the window stop so you don’t destroy your new ones.

I paid the price for factory but I guess it was aftermarket. They doesn't fit at all, any of them.

I guess I have to buy new ones.

Guys, sorry to resurrect this thread, but wondering if anyone had any tips on the riveting. I'm not quite sure how to set the brass rivets since both sides of the rivet sit in a channel, and a pop rivet tool wont allow the rivet to sit flush on both sides.

I found some small machine screws, but they don't provide a very solid attachment. And on that note, how tight should the pieces fit once rivited? I'm assuming just as tight as if they were screwed in tight, but is there any concern about the alignment of angled piece (the one that attached to the top part of the "stop" with two small screws)?

You need to remove the entire frame from the door and then disassemble the vent window for access.

I wouldn't use screws. Done right, the rivets will make it tight.
