Intermittent Brake Loss 84 Carrera
Need help with solving a random issue with the brakes on an 84 Carrera. After driving the car for apx. 45 minutes, and when applying the brakes, the pedal will go to the floor with barely any braking left. If I pump the brakes they will build pressure after several pumps. Turning the car off and letting it sit for apx. 15-30 seconds and restart, the brakes are back with a proper pedal. I am not losing any brake fluid as the level in the master cylinder remains at full, no drop whatsoever. I am guessing this is some sort of vacuum issue. Open for any recommendations. Sounds like maybe air in the system.

Sounds like dragging calipers. Heat is conducted to the brake fluid, which boils and becomes vapor which is compressable. Cools down and becomes liquid again. Jack it up and see if any wheels are hard to turn.

There is likely to be water in your brake fluid as well, so even if you don't replace the calipers, you will need to flush out the brake lines with new fluid.

Something very similar was happening on my '84. Mine was just as John said, sticking caliper wouldn't open up when off the brake pedal. My problem was the rear calipers. One side was barely sticking, but the other side was creating so much heat it was easy to tell something was wrong as the whole wheel was blazing hot.
I replaced the calipers and full fluid flush and no more problem.

As others have said, start with bleeding the brakes / checking the calipers especially if it needs to be done anyway. If that doesn’t do it, then I would start looking at the master cylinder.
It may be as easy as old fluid / water in the fluid. Rebuilding the calipers is not that tough or expensive either. Most importantly- be careful driving it until you get it sorted!! Make sure you emergency brake is sorted!!

Could be wheel bearing. when the wheel wobbles, opens the caliper to far. Stepping on the brake then takes a couple pumps.

If John Walker is correct you will feel heat at the affected wheel after driving for a few minutes. If one wheel is hotter than the others, there is your culprit.
