That's it pal.

The fender/bucket retainer lip at the top must be hooked under the trim ring, then you screw it into the single threaded tab at the bottom.

I drilled a hole in the back of the headlight bucket and ran a safety chain to an anchor, then sealed it up with some clear silicon weather-caulk. All this after I lost one when I hit a pothole and saw one of the H4's go flying.

Or, drill two holes and run a zip-tie through both holes and the wire braces holding the trim ring. This allows you to snug/tighten after install.

Make sure the tab that the screw threads into is sound. Some have reinforced that threaded area.

My install was going fine, new gaskets, black trim H4s......until on the second one - this tab stripped. So, now it's loose and I managed to get the bolt out (bolt with threaded hole in it). I guess I could thread a bigger screw, JB weld a nut on back of tab, or drill it out and find a metric riv-nut. Any suggestions?

Larger screw might be the temporary solution for the weekend.

Thanks

If you have a welder, you might try closing up the hole, then drilling a new hole that starts the self-tapping machine screw.

JB weld a nut on the back side of the tab might be the easiest with least hassle. I had one strip out and used a riv-nut, but that was awkward and still doesn't fit just right.

No welder - but there is one M5 sppednut in town - so that should do for weekend and I’ll be buying rivet nut tool

Any other ideas?

I used a rivet nut 10 years ago. No problems since then.

Got the last bag of M5 speednuts @ NAPA. Worked well, actually went back and did the other side, just to be safe.

Thanks for all the help/suggestions. Life saver below:
