Hot Rod Gas Tank
I'd like to sell this unique gas tank. The tank was originally installed in my 72 ST tribute build, but I recently exchanged it for a 100L tank as the majority of my driving are on long distance cruises and rallies.
This tank was among the first "sport purpose" items I bought while acquiring parts for my ST build. In pouring through the "Ultimate ST" and "Another Hod Rod" thread on ESR there are photos of what appeared to be a very similar tank to this one from the ST parts bin, but I cannot confirm this is a genuine ST racing part. It is a standard looking tank with a large under hood filler and looks killer. I bought it from Wayne Baker in San Diego who has had it on the shelf in his shop for over 20 years. Wayne recalls it came from a red twin plug car that was shipped to Europe after he took the tank out and replaced it at the owners request with a larger tank for rally use. Wayne recalls that the car was owned by Yves Junne an executive at Motul in France and an avid collector/vintage racer. Anyways, the tank holds about 50-52 liters (~13 gallons) so a bit smaller than the standard 62L tank and has a very large fill opening of ~4 inches. I've not seen a bigger lid than this one. Small tank, big lid. Best we figure is that this was made for circuit racing or maybe hill climbs. There were no part numbers on it and I repainted it a semi gloss paint. Its a very cool piece and its doing no good sitting in a box in storage. It's leak free and will come with a fuel sender. I can also take more photos but I wanted to post it and get the party started.... Not sure what to ask, so how about $2000 obo +shipping & PP fees. Let me know. Nick ![]()

Did you sell the tank, or have any interest in it? I was thinking on ordering a centerfill tank from Dave at TRE, as I am converting to fenders w/o gas’s filler. This might work for us, but your price is close to the brand new centerfill unit. Is there any room to bargain?

Nice tank , but not rare or close to an ST race tank , looks more like a standard issue early pre '74
13 gallon tank with the fender fill removed and extra large opening and cap welded in place , at most a $500 dollar deal ..at least that's my opinion and I've had a few RS tanks and 100 liter Rallye tanks . Just an FYI , Bert

As I said I cannot confirm the origin of this tank as a racing part, but whoever did the work if it was a converted tank did a great job and it certainly looks the part, and IMO better than the new issue Dansk tanks. Thanks for the input.
I am open to an offer, send me a PM and see if we can work it out. Nick
