factory tool kit
Hi,
I've got both versions of the factory tool kit used in 1973, the earlier version with the inner liner and spring-actuated clasps on the tool kit bag, and the late version with the tie string bag. Both are in excellent to near mint condition, accurate, complete, and priced at $1195 plus shipping and insurance. Regards, Scott |

Scott,
Not wanting to rain on your parade but, are you sure that the bags you are offering for the 73 are correct? I have a 73.5 with two snaps for the closure.

There were 3 bags in 1973. No question the early bag was the 2 clasps. Have seen both string tie (most of the cars), and the snaps (very few).
Scott knows his stuff..... no question. IF it was my choice to buy a kit from Scott, I would personally take the 2 clasp version...I just like that kit/tools better. regards, Eric toolkit junkie....

So, I'm still in a bit of sticker shock, though I'm sure Scott has some high quality stuff. My ride is no original survivor, so I'm not inclined to say that I need a toolkit in original condition. I don't know what the differences are between the kits either. My car is a 1973(MFI) originally, but it was re-powered with a 1978 3.0(CIS) by the PO. So, am I best off with a kit appropriate for a 73, or would I be ok with a kit from an 911SC era car? Thoughts? What would be the differences in fair market price?

What are your intentions for the tools? Are you really going to use them? Longhood tool kits these days are mostly for show and having for the completeness of the car. If it is about completeness then get a kit that is correct for your MY. If it is about use then go get Craftsman or what ever.
I was just reviewing some postings on another site that were about 4 years old with individuals commenting on the cost of tool kits then, selling for less than half of what they are going for now. There are huge subtleties in the tools and kit bags for each year so be informed and ask questions. SC era kits can be had for $200-$300 on fleebay.

Thanks for the advice Jung. Yes, my intention is to get a toolkit for occasional use. I think there are some tools that are specific to a 911 toolkit. I guess I'll look into the SC toolkits. $200-$300 is more within my budget.

Eric, Thanks for the details. Are the snaps from a late 73 or an early 73? I bow to those who take the time to figure which one goes with which.

I have a leftover bag from a 73 (the string version) with partial tools. Certainly not complete and certainly NOT perfect, but a lot cheaper than $1100 and something to build on.
If interested, pm me and I can send pic's and discuss price. Last edited by blau911; 06-10-2008 at 11:43 PM.. |
