Aparrently there is an even earlier temp sensor - up to 1968 - part #901 741 632 00 . I am attaching the picture of it.
This is 3+ times more expensive...! they seem very similar but there is an obvious difference, at the top (dry) electrical contact. This is meant for a common slip contact. How does yours connect? Are they interchangeable?

Interesting - my picture shows an alternate connector - the circle slip connection - I don't know if they are compatible.
