WTB one 78 3.0 head or need advice....

hi,

rebuilding an 78 3.0 for a friend who has had heads redone by a "pro".
one of the heads came back like that (exhaust valve).
Can it be repaired or do we need a head? thx.

aloha, you'll have to press the guide out again crack the broken bits out, tig weld it up, redrill guide hole, grind the weld to shape, replace guide (heat the head up first this time). cut the valve seat again, lap valve, replace valve, and shazaam you're done!

That is the 78/79 big port SC head. It is the same as the 76/77 3.0 Carrera head.

I would send the heads to a real pro like Competition Engineering and have them checked. There could be one that is under too much interference that will crack with temperature.
Cheaper to redo it now than later.
