1975 to 1977 carrera tail FACTORY original part
I have decided to sell my favorite tail. This is a really nice part it appears to have only been painted white . The metal structurs is not rusty . The rubber is in good condition but not like new. It is not cracked or split. $1600.00 obo . As you cand see it has a later model carrera emblem stuck on to it. If you look closely at the back side of the tail you can see there are a couple of small holes that the original carrera emblem studs were sticking through. This is a real CARRERA TAIL

Can you look in the center groove of the metal center support bar near the latch pin end. You should see a stamped-in number of 911.512.010.07 , followed by a triangle.
Then possibly a Letter . If there is a letter , can you please tell me what it is ? And you only see 2 holes were a badge would be ? If you ever care to . Post some photos of the stamp , and the spot were the holes are on the underside. And if you can , a shot of up in the tail part of the cavity. Thx for any further info. |

numbers
ratbox, please post a photo of exactly where I would find the stamped numbers. I might have to lightly sand the finish to see where they are.
I will do my best to post the photos you requested if you can kindly show me exactly where to look for the numbers. Thanks Cory

Right here . See to the right near the spring loaded latch pin . Or where it would be if it was bolted on.
Again , I want to know if you have a letter stamped after the triangle (the triangle will follow the part number) : ![]() And your sure you only see old 2 holes for a badge on the underside ? Look closely ....Normally ones with this frame would have come on a Carrera 3.0 or an early 911SC , and have more badge holes. IF it was original fitment on a factory 1975 Carrera 2.7 . Of course it could be from a very late 1975 MY car (possibly , but I have not examined any very late1975 carrera's yet) , or come over the counter. Did cars originally get painted with the decklid on or off ? Notice the factory looking green primer under where the hinges were bolted. Thx , for any extra eyeballing. cory jump ,
Are you going to check your part number ? I'm sorry if you did not like my comments that this was more likely a 1976 - 77 (or 1980 weissach) taIL. I was only telling it like it is. I did include the fact , that in very late 1975 MY production. The frame as in your's could have starting to pop up. I have not examined any REALLY late 1975's |

cory jump ,
Well , I would say that even though it seems to have been the norm. Your tail is definately genuine. Remember , these things were made by humans...**** can happen. Whomever made it...or was suppose to stamp it , obviously forgot. Unless it's there and lightly stamped ...buried by paint. Nice tail |

You can also look at the side of the frame , 'sometimes' they are stamped there. It was either an early thing vs. in the center bar on a bit later built whaletails. Or , once in awhile whomever happened to do the stamping - did it there. The full fiberglass factory tails are 'normally' stamped on the side of frame also. However once in awhile , one of those surfaces that is stamped in the center. As you can imagine , there are trends...very rarely absolutes...again humans involved.
Here's an early 1975 Whaletail (steel frame) , which the stamping on the side of frame : ![]() Last edited by RatBox; 10-04-2011 at 12:00 PM.. |
