aircooled 911 / 912 roof racks
I am in the beginning stages of making roof racks for aircooled 911/ 912s. They are constructed from 16ga steel tubing, hand bent then powdercoated "silver anodized effect". All of my racks are test fitted on my personal 912E for final fitment. There are six contact points that interface with the rain gutters on the 911/912 , all of which have rubber feet and two rubberized clamps that hold it securely to the roof. The wood is a simple pine slat that has been treated and held in place with stainless screws. These fit all hardtop 911/912 models through 993. These are intended to work with sunroof cars. I do not have a targa application currently.
*For clarification sake this design was originally sold by Pedro of Pedro's racks, he has since stopped making the Porsche racks and sold me the rights to produce these going forward.* I currently have two racks ready to ship, the price is $575 plus $80 greyhound shipping. Fedex or UPS will run approx $150 due to the size of the parcel but still doable if you do not have access to a greyhound depot. Until I have a better inventory on hand to upload to my website/ store please PM me for payment info or any questions/ comments you may have! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1524484057.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1524484398.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1524484324.JPG |

I use it fairly frequently, and think it looks great. I am so glad someone was able to take up the torch. |
Thanks for the pics! I have not had a chance to take some decent pictures of the racks on my car yet... too busy chit chatting at Hershey to snap a few also, shame on me.
Your car looks killer!! Quote:

I swung by your booth at Hershey this weekend. These are excellent roof racks with high quality material used.

Racks
Where are these going to be shipped from?
|
If it's greyhound they will be shipped from either Silver Spring MD or Woodbridge Va. FedEx would be Winchester VA.

Do you have a design that would work on a targa?
|
Not currently, trying to focus on the 911 and BMW 2002 roof mounted racks for now. I will branch out a little more when I get my build process / powdercoating vendor nailed down for these.

Hey Ryan. I saw your booth at Hershey and took a pic of your banner for future contact info. You were busy chatting... anyway, great website!
You had a couple different colors of racks and wood finishes. Do you have photos of the different options? and timeframe as I see you are OOS. Rob |
Hey,
I have one left ready to ship, the website is a work in progress also... need to tie a paypal account to the store portion before I can upload inventory. Haven't really put that site out there much aside from the show. We did one in a darker finish that I had on my personal car and as luck would have it when I was unloading after the show the bottom of my box gave out and the rack dragged on the asphalt and really messed up the powdercoating. I guess I will keep this one as a display model! I got some feedback from quite a few people at the swap regarding a darker finish on the wood so the next batch will probably be the same pine but with a more rosewood/ mahogany colored finish, think rosewood without the high cost! I've done some shopping around and came up with about $150 for teak, rosewood would be about the same and mahogany would be roughly $100. I will be changing the clamp style as soon as I can get a DXF file together for a piece I need made. This will be similar to the Amco style clamp that sort of "pinches" the gutter and will utilize a nicer looking knob for tightening. I was thinking a billet screw knob. Quote:

Ryan, are you considering black powder coating at all? Might make the rack look extra nice on the later model 911's that already have the black trim pieces.
|
Epic!! I'm going to PM you about a project I need help with...
|
what kind of weight can this hold?

Waiting on a new shipment of metal, I have a custom project I will be starting on first for someone I spoke with at Hershey then I'll do another run of the "standard" racks.
I still have one ready to ship! |
Still have one left ready to ship.

I have a 77 with black trim, would love a black rack with teak. Been trying to get a Pedro rack for years since he stopped. Happy to find this!
