FS: Worlds worst short shift kit. Part 1
Removed from my '76.
Worst because as it sits now the tangs don't align. This was installed by prior owner during a clutch package r&r. The shift rod is not aligned parallel to the housing tangs, so the 5-4 shift often ends up in R; getting into and out of R is iffy at best. If I were going to keep it I would grind off the lever tang and weld a new one at the proper position,, or try to map torch the housing tangs to off-center become parallel. Lever $20, Housing $300, Boot $25. All pricing includes shipping within CONUS. Bill, the easier fix is to remove the shift lever and separate the top half from the ball end short shift attachment (looks like Target brand). When the lower part was installed, the 2 halves weren't aligned correctly, thus the resultant offset angles.
Heat or old age usually separates those parts, and they sometimes do so when driving :-0, but once realigned, everything should fit as it should. A permanent fix is to tack-weld the two parts (once aligned). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1528394781.jpg The shift housing will be more saleable in that condition. Sherwood |
