good price for a 912e core
Whats a fair price for a 912e long block that needs a rebuild? I want to make an offer but I don't have a point of reference.
Thanks |
Is it a real 912E engine ? Or just a type 4 engine. (bus,vanagon)?
It depends what comes with the longblock , the full deal is worth some money.... Rebuilding is not cheap , especially if you let a specialist do it. What comes with a so called longblock?Just a case , pistons , cylinders & heads ? eki |
few years ago Parts Heaven had one for $1,500.00 running condition

Yes its a 912e. The long block is valve cover to valve cover. I believe #3 dropped a seat. I don't know how many miles are on it. It has been sitting so I will need to rebuild it.

It's probably worth just a little more than the heads are worth alone. A 912E longblock IS a 914 2.0 Longblock for most people's purposes. They go for anywhere from $300 to about $700 depending on condition. Sometimes more to a motivated buyer.
If it had a failure when removed it slided down the price scale of course. All the parts in a 2.0 longblack are readily available and not hard to find, so though a 912E engine is technically rare...that's a tough selling point. 2.0's are good stuff tho! Bob O |
What I meant with the real 912E engine is ; if someone is looking for all the special 912E pieces , then it is worth more. If it is just a 2.0 longblock , altough from 912E , then it is just a 2.0 longblock.
And the pricing given here seems right. eki |

Your point is very clear. Those 912E specific goodies do drive up the cost, otherwise its a 2.0 914 motor |
