Midwest 914 Graveyard

Anybody know of a place that has one or more really lousy 914 "skeletons"? I see people posting pics of cars torn in half, inside out, burned, or otherwise sacrificed to the Porsche God. I'd like to try to pick some parts off to experiment with.

I live in Dayton Ohio (errrggghhhh) and 914's are not a very common find around here. I am willing to drive as much as 500 miles to find parts (I never lost my love of roadtrips from college).

Any leads that can be offered would be appreciated. I'd also be HONORED to pick these cars over for whatever anyone might want (obviously they would have to be obscure parts, or not very desireable ones to still be there) and just send them to you.

I feel like I am asking if anyone knows a long legged blonde girl with a bi-sexual georgious nympho female roomate who like to do freaky weird "things" with guys named "Potter"...........but who knows, maybe there is a couple cars out there that time has forgotten. Does not hurt to ask.

Is Atlanta too far?

There is a place in Atlanta (Automobile Atlanta). Lots of picked over shells. There are 54 "914 restoration projects". Lots of good pix on the website:

http://www.***********.com/carsearchinclude.lasso

Some prices seem a bit high to me, but maybe you can haggle? Most cars are $0 which I assume means "make offer"...

Have fun!!!

PS: Ummm, while you're down there, could you pick me up a 911 front end? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Does she have a sister?

Actually, the weird thing is we _do_ have those _AND_ 914s out here in San Diego.
Of course you also have to put up with: and and and and

Sorry to dissappoint you Potter, but most of the "914 smorgasbord graveyards" are in the climates where it's warm all year. Being from the Milwaukee area, and a fairly rabid 914 junkie with Milw. Region PCA, I occationally hear from people who know someone, who's talked to a guy, who's brother has a buddy, who's cousin married a guy, who's boss said he saw a 914 once.
Remember, there were only slightly less than 119000 teeners made, and Porsche sent them to the areas where they were most likely to get the most of them sold the fastest. What a concept!

So keep your eyes and ears open, beacause every so often you'll here about a car that someone wants to get rid of and you may get a shot at it, provided the Auto Atlantas, Oklahoma Foreign's, and damn near everywhere in Sothern Calif. doesn't here about it first!

Potter,
I've posted some of the pics you are referring to. There was a place in MI where a guy had a bunch of derelict 914 chassis out in a field. I've never been there but this is what I heard happened to them. A neighbor complained, or something like that, and he was told he had to get rid of them, so he took his bulldozer and dug a big hole. He pushed them all in and covered them up. Now they're all in an unmarked grave, apparently lost forever. BS Chairman? Tom B? is that accurate? (They've been there. Those were their pics I posted)

You can talk to Brad Mayeur. He has the largest stash of 914s in the midwest of anyone I have heard of. He's in East Peoria IL--not sure if that is in range for you or not. Not all of the cars are his, many belong to his customers and are being worked on, but there sure are a lot of 'em around!

Email him at veldiadv (at) midwest (dot-net).

I'm not sure where in Ohio you are Potter, but Peoria isn't that Far away.

Brad is a real nice guy. I met him a a D.E. event at Blackhawk Farms Raceway last July. We were the only two guys running 914's that day. (How often would you see that in Calif. - 2, 914's at a D.E. Track event!) Unfortunately for Potter, the cars Brad has aren't cars he'd be able to "pick some parts off of to experiment with". Brad's parts are for sale. His business isn't a "boneyard", it's a restoration / repair/ race-prep shop.
I gathered that's not quite what Potter is hoping to find.

You still might want to try Brad anyway. Last time I talked to him, he told me about a guy who had a junk yard not far from him with a mess of imports on it. Brad said the guy was in in deep poop about zoning, enviro regs, etc. and was having to clear everything out. Brad "gave" this guy some ratty 914 parts cars as long as Brad could pull parts off 'em as needed. If you email Brad, don't expect a response for a (long) while, as he doesn't check his email very often. He does advertise in the Pano if you wanted to call him. His shop is called 914 Limited. I've known him for 15+ years, and he is 'da man for 'teeners.

You could always come out to my place. 35ft trailer full of 914 parts. Only one shell but loads of parts. Parts are so deep in the front of the trailer one could go in the side door and not be seen. You can only walk in 3 feet before having to move things to walk farther in. I've been auctioning off most of the parts on ebay. Its the quickest and easist way. What were you looking for.

Potter,
Brad Mayeur is a good choice for parts, he is fair & accurate with
his parts descriptions. I purchased lots of stuff over the years & he always treated me fair. Plan on coming to some of our Michigan/Ohio gatherings this summer & attend our swap meets.

Hey Curvie,
Yes, it's true the MI. lost junk yard did exist. I still have my own personal junkyard that you have to give me the "secrete handshake" to enter. Even Gary can't get in. Of course those cherry parts don't come cheap.

Tom B. - I'll have to see if my 8 foot fly rod will break down far enough to fit in the trunk if you have a gathering in Petoskey..........Lord knows I don't get that close to the Au Sable without trying to fool a fish with a feather on her beautiful curving contours. Grew up in East Lansing and spent many a weekend up to my chest in that beautiful river.

I'll show you some secret fishing spots if you show my your 914 secret garden!!!!!!

There is a guy in Cartersville, GA (just north of Atlanta) that I bought some parts from that has about 10 to 15 914s laying around behind his house. He advertises parts for sale on Trader Online. Here is a link to the ad.

Potter,
There is a guy here in Battle Creek, MI (about 4 hours from Dayton) that has 6 or 7 914's in vaying shades of parts picking. He may be willing to let you pick. He buy's them from all over and parts them out. Some on the forum have dealt with Fred V. He's a nice guy and has competitive prices. If interseted I can give you his email.
