BAGDAD?!? DUDE!! i used to work in bagdad!!! at the copper mine, i worked for brown and root const., i was an iron worker. we were building a gold processing plant and i worked on a few other facilities there. this was in the ... aahhhh .... late '70's. i was living in congress! driving to bagdad everyday. don't remember the road numbers. but there was a real twisty road that kinda of goes in the back way. there was a guy that worked for b&r that was staying in bagdad and working at another job site. we (my bro and i) would see him on that twisty road every afternoon. we would be leaving the mine and he would be coming back towards bagdad. one day as we came over one of the little hills on that twisty road, there was that 914, sideways in the road. he had spun out and a pickup was just inches from his door. he had spun right in front of this guy and he almost t bones him!!

MAN .... i always wanted to drive a 914 on that road. if that's the road you're taking, i hope it hasn't changed. but that was almost 30 years ago. it's probably flat, staight and 4 laned by now!! (-:

enjoy!!

doug,

No, its till the twisty road you remember. Its in pretty good shape too. That drive from Congress to Bagdad must have been a blast. You get the mountain roads near Yarnell (on Rt. 89), then again on Rt. 96 to Bagdad.

If only we all could have such a drive to work, Eh!

What names for towns! Congress, hah! There must be some other diiferent town names people have driven there Porsches to. This could be a good thread.

The memorable road I drove in AZ was into Jerome. Not a weird name, but a great and fast road. Long sweepers for a half hour.

gerald,

wow, that's amazing that road hasn't changed!!!! that really is a fun road. i always thought it would be great for a time trial like a hill climb. that was the 2nd 914 i had ever seen. it really left an impression on me, seeing it flash by every day on that road.

yeah, that was a cool commute. a little slow though, i had a vw bug, '60 i think, it was the first year the bug went to the square back window, it had the little blinkers in the door post that were suppose to flip out when you used the turn signal, but mine didn't work. 6 volt, 36 hp, it was kinda hard getting up those grades!!

i eventually moved from congress up to the big city of prescott (sp). that drive from prescott to bagdad wasn't nearly as fun. IIRC that drive from congress up to prescott was pretty cool though!!

i know you guys are going to have a blast!! wish i could be there. i've been in central fl. for about 20 years now and i've yet to find a road with a curve in it!! )-:

have fun!!

doug

that's "gerard" oops sorry!!

Zeke,

Oohh YYeehh! That Route 89 road is definitely one of my favorites. In fact, one road Doug is talking about is the lower part of 89 between Yarnell (north of Congress) and Prescott (south of Jerome). That whole stretch is full of mountain roads with sharp curves, sweeping curves, switch-backs, the works. Definitely a road for the 914's.

You should come back over to these parts and drive them again!

Regards,

There's a road that starts here in Boring... TickleCreek Road. It goes up & down & around with some hard 15 & 20 MPH (KYA)corners. If ya drive normal it will last around 20 minutes but if you drive like, well, you know
This is the road I got sideways in
Was trying out some new tires and didn't understand the inflation ratio thing (hard/soft/ slide/ spin...) and itscared the s**t outta me (very new to the teener at the time). Got really good tires now and a bit more carefull on that road. Don't wanna end up like the truck pullin that boat on another post

3D914,

Man, I wish I could join you... my teener just isn't up to it quite yet. Its nice to see some AZ activity on the board, most of it seems to be CA / MI based!

Please post future drives for us! Good luck taking Bagdad...

Why do people from Tucson always post their location as "Sunny Tucson"? Nice to see someone else on the board from Tucson. Can't remember the last time I saw a 914 around town.

I had to look on a map to find Bagdad AZ. Quite a little road trip from here. Should be nice weather on Sunday.

You do know the reason that most of the activity is CA/MI based, don't you?

It's because people in those areas are putting on events and talking about them. If you want to see more activity in your area, by all means plan something and let us all know about it!

DD,

Yes I'm aware of that. I haven't seen too many 914's down here in southern Arizona lately. I think the Californians bought them all up
