Houston, TX 914 Support Group
Calling out to all Houston/Austin/Galveston and surrounding area 914 enthusiasts…….
I am asking for your input about forming an informal 914 club. Goals: 1) To help other local owners get their cars back on the road, crew at race events and overall support group for all 914 owners. 2) To establish a local group of owners who are interested in swapping parts to keep their projects alive. 3) To pool our collective talents to assist other owners. Tool loans, welding and fabrication help, etc. 3) To put together a directory of addresses and emails, so that you can meet other local 914 owners. 4) Meet once a month or quarter to have a fun run, informal car show, or make a run to TWS to watch our brethren compete in PCA events. Who am I? First and foremost, I am NOT related to any kind of business that will use this information for sales purposes. I will use this information for purposes of putting an informal club together. I am just a 914 owner with a few cars, lots of parts and a love of all things mechanical. I am not a purest by any means. My current driving 914 has a Rotary 13B Mazda RX7 engine, I have a Buick 3.8L conversion that is sitting on an engine stand waiting for a transplant victim and I have a 305 Chevy V8 that will replace the Rotary by the summer. I am also not made of money, so I prefer to scour the junkyards and on occasion I buy parts cars to pull apart and finance my hobby. Ebay has been good to me and has allowed me to finance my projects. I am also very philanthropic, not with my money but with my time. I have spent countless hours helping those who are less mechanically inclined than myself put their vehicles back together. It’s just fun for me and golf is a more frustrating option. Please indicate your interest level. If you are interested please supply your name, address, phone number and an email address so that I can start to put this together. If there is not enough interest, I will at least put a few more local owners together for support. My initial plan is to put together a roster and organize a first meeting to discuss our collective interest in the direction we should take. I live on the SW side of town and work on the NW side. Please contact me by any means you prefer. I hope to hear from you soon. If you can stand the ads that go with it (banner ads), a Yahoo Group might not be the worst idea. Jamie Rust up in the PacificNW has done that, and it seems to work out reasonably well.
Randy W., in the SF Bay Area, put together the http://www.roadglue.com website and also started up a Roadglue Yahoo Group email-list. Might be worth looking around there to see what others have done. --DD |
Thanks Dave. I follow the Roadglue site and would like to put together a similar club in the Houston, TX area. We have a load of cars but not many that are drivers. Many seem to need just a little assistance to get back on the road. A "Support Group" is just what we need. Depending on the interest, we might build a site and Yahoo group might be a good idea. I'm in. I live in League City. My email address is available if you send me a private message--I hate to post it on public sites like this because the spam robots will pick it up and you'll start getting spam mail out the kazoo.

David,
This sounds great. My wife keeps aksing if there is a 12 program for 914 owners, Now I can tell her I found a support group. Seriously I am in San Antonio and would love to find a group of South Texas 914's. Maybe I won't have to be so envious of the West Coasters any more. PM you w/ contact info Ron |
