Dual Solex Carbs that won't Idle
 
Okay I have a 1972 914 that has been rebuilt twice by me. The last rebuild started 15 years ago. Due to jobs that I have lived in Japan for a year and Florida for two years and everything in between two kid through college....I am finally working to get the car on the road. The motor is now over 2.0 liter. Over time the D-Jet Tronic computer died.

My problem is I cannot get the Solex carburetors synchronized or idle below 2000 rpm.
The carbs are H32/34 PD512/513. I have not been able to find info on these carbs.

The adjustments are limited to what I think is the idle speed adjuster which holds open the throttle plate (butterfly) and I think it is an idle mixture screw.

Does anyone know or have instructions on how to set up these carbs.

Are they electric choke, how are you energizing them. No binding on the linkage. What dizzy are you using. Vacuum lines?

Another thing. If you are 2 L or more these carbs may not be enough for the engine. They are more applicable on 1.7, 1.8. Maybe someone can chime in.

I would check the valve adjustment, compression and for intake leaks first. Those small solex carbs are pretty reliable and easy to adjust

The carbs are electric choke, power from the positive terminal on coil, there is no binding in linkage, distributor is an electronic SVDA 034 vacuum advance, vacuum source for the advance is from RH carb there is a port mid-way between the choke plate and the throttle plate. I just re-calculate the engine size, do not know what I was doing 15 years ago but I thought the engine was 2010 cc it is 2365! Small mistake (sh...t)! I used a 2.0L crank (stroke 71mm) and Scat cylinders 103mm when I rebuilt the engine, had to have heads bored, spacers under the cylinders, longer push rods....

As soon as get motivated (still pissed about calculating engine size wrong wasn't building a street racer) I will check compression and put back on jack stands and check valve clearance.

My compression is 150 psi (10.2:1) higher then I asked for. Also found a hose from the LH manifold hooked up to the crankcase oil filler vent box. I think that is a vacuum leak.

Just my opinion but I think those carbs are too small for that engine. I used to have a set of those lying around, they are single barrels as I remember.

Just a heads up mine is a 2400cc and I have dual 48IDA webers installed with extractors.
It would not run properly with a standard exhaust.
