Carb linkage Weber vs Empi Hpmx
Hi again folks
For years I ran 40mm empi Hpmx carbs on my 2.0 L and was very happy with them. I also had bought some 40mm Webers for my other 914 2.0L and now the time has come to put those Webers on my newly restored 914. The carb linkage on the Webers are such that the throttle plate linkage assembly opens away from the center of the engine, thus the hex bar would not work with the associated linkage. I looked at the linkage of the throttle ends of the Empi Hpmx carbs and found that if I switched the end assemblies to the Webers then I have a working setup. Is this common when buying Weber IDF’s for type 4’s and 914’s. Would this be something that you have to buy separately for most linkage (hexbar and other associated linkage assembly) to work on Webers. Thanks for reading |
I'm not sure what the problem is here but here are some pics of my Weber set up with the hex bar linkage. This has worked well for me for almost 15 years. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580674425.jpg

Thank you Fly Mach.86 for the pics. The Webers I bought from a bug shop 10 years ago are no longer open. In your pics the linkage that comes down from the hex bar makes a connection at the end of your Weber that has a hole on the linkage allowing the butterfly shaft to spin clockwise if viewed from the front of your car.
You see with your setup like mine you could not open your carbs if your linkage from the hexbar had to cross over to the other side of the carb. Mine does not have the little assembly at the end of the carb( a hole) to allow the linkage to connect to. For some reason these carbs came from the factory Without linkage at the end of the carbs allowing for a linkage assembly to open them from a setup like yours. I’ve transplanted the linkage assembly from my Hpmx carbs which allows me to use my hex bar setup like yours for now. I know it’s difficultto describe it. I’ll take some pics so that you can see my dilemma. |
Correction. As viewed from the front of a 914 the Right throttle plate rotates counterclockwise and the Left carb throttle plate rotates clockwise.
