Thumbs up D&G Swap Meet

the recurring theme I encountered was " I wanted to bring my 914 but the *&^%$!!!".... Many beautiful 914s were there to provide great inspiration to those of us who did not bring theirs. Thanks to all who organized this gathering. I met some cool folks and scored on some good parts deals. I got back to San Diego, did not even off load my great swap meet scored parts when I was back on my 914 working. Ahh, the life of a 1.8 L jet. thanks Glen

Hey Sean, I really wanted to go but did not want to go without mine again. I just got it running last week with the new engine but it has a strange noise when it gets warmed up like something hitting on the sheet metal when it decelerates. I just don’t trust it yet to go a long way. It is really strong with lots of low end torque and smooth. But the noise is really bugging me. I spent all day Sunday working on cars. The noise is still there but only when it gets warmed up and it doesn’t do it when you accelerate. I will figure it out eventually and hopefully see you at one of the other events. Maybe this weekend at Pomona? Sorry I missed you.

Wild guess--
Check the routing of the vacuum advance and retard lines. Could they be swapped?

Probably a good guess if I had them. I am running dual 40 Dellorto carbs on 76 heads with tubes and caps to plug the air injection ports. I think that may be the culprit but I have not had time to get in and try another type of plug yet. The noise is quite loud the warmer the engine gets and it sounds like a metal to metal hit. More like something slapping the sheet metal rather than a rod knock or piston slap. The air injection ports are plugged with little hollow pipes and then capped and I think they are made of brass. Could this be my problem? Anyone have any experience with this in the past? Open for suggestions.

Hey Sean,
Welcome to the board. I'll post my pics this weekend (barring any tech problems).
