914 plug wires.
Hello everyone
It’s frustrating buying plug wires for the 914 lately. Just picked up a new set of plug wires ( not from our host) maybe that was my mistake but I bought them from Autozone. My car is a 2 L type 4. Problem, the wires for I believe cylinders 2,4 are not really long enough. So, these wires are copper core, low resistance. I have some 8mm MSD wires, NOT COPPER core. I noticed that I can get them to fit into the spark plug receptacles with a little work. Now, I measured the resistance and for a 2.5 foot I got 13,500 ohms which is excellent for these wires. Appreciate resistance for copper core is around 500. Now the big question, am I going to have problems with these non copper core wires on my points distributor. DAVE or Dr.914 please chime in |

I don't think you will have problems, but it's not something I have researched. You could simply try it and see.
IIRC, the wires listed for the 912 had enough length for 2-liter motors, while the ones listed for 914s were often a bit short. (They would probably be fine for the non-2-liter-914 heads.) It's been a while since I was shopping for plug wires, so this info might be outdated. If you buy from a more focused seller (e.g., Pelican, AA, High Performance House, etc.) you are more likely to get correct parts than if you buy from someone who doesn't know 914s at all. --DD

I researched this more and Napa sells 7mm copper core wire at 67 cents a foot. I’ve read where there were fires associated with using carbon plug wires on points distributor. I saw this last night on a YouTube video. I don’t want to take any chances. So for a few bucks I’m able to make the lengths I need. |

FWIW, I had Clewett on my 951 and really liked it.
Happy hunting.
