Vinyl Covered Targa Bar
Was vinyl on the 914 targa bar an option for 914 four and 914 six cars?

IIRC, all 914s came with vinyl on the targa bar ("sail panel vinyl").
Many owners choose to take it off when repainting the car (I did). |

Not correct. The sail panel vinyl was a option.

I have seen fixed seat cars with vinyl on the sail panel that looked pretty legit, but what does my dumb ass know. Seems like by now some 914 geek would have a available options for each year sorted

Roll bar and sail panel vinyl was an option. In theory, all 914-6es came with it. I think there have been one or two documented Sixes that were delivered without it.
It was an option for the four-cylinder cars, but quite a popular one. Almost all of the 73 2.0 cars came with it, along with the other options. Apparently most of the 75 and 76 cars also came with it. Not sure how common it was on the earlier ones. In general, I believe, the sail panel vinyl was bundled with the chrome bumpers. So cars with painted bumpers would have not had sail panel vinyl, and ones with chrome would have had it. I'm pretty sure that's not a universal correlation, though. --DD

It was part of the Appearance Group package of options. It was not an option available on it's own that I know of. While I don't claim to have a complete list of 914 options, I do have a very extensive list, and I have to organize it by year.
