I think it is more of a very annoying buzzer, but most cars I have seen and been in have had it disconnected. But maybe I am thinking of the fasten seat belt warning. Hmmmmm, I guess I don't rightly know.
Someone else will chime in I am sure. -Chris

My '76 has no door open buzzer. Nor key in the ignition buzzer. Only the seat belt buzzer, which has been disconnected for so long I don't remember how it worked in the first place! I have always used my seat belts, but the buzzer was always irritating as I often start the car and let it idle before buckling up. This was the first car I had with a seatbelt buzzer and it seemed like "big-brother" had arrived! LOL!

My '74 is fairly complete + original and it has the key in the ignition buzzer.
It is the most annoying buzzer in the world, but I'm the type that would lock my keys in the car so it stays. Does anyone know a retro fit to a nice bell/chime type? My seatbelt warn was disconnected by a PO. "Hello AAA? I’ve locked my keys in my 914! Could you please hurry, it looks like rain and I left the top off!"

Mark's comment about the key in ignition buzzer has me wondering. Could my '76 have had that too? It doesn't at the moment.

I would think so, I doubt if this was a "Canada only" buzzer and only an earlier car might/wouldn't have it IMO. I 'think' that it is just a plug in module on the top of your fuse panel, but I've never looked for it.

Check under the passenger's seat. My 74 had a buzzer there, I forget if it was a "key in" buzzer or a "door open" buzzer. Either way, I got irritated and unplugged and tossed it. It was old and sounded really pathetic...

My 75 1.8 has a key-in buzzer... it's located under the passenger seat, and sounds very much like Jim Carrey's "most annoying sound in the world" routine...

There is a small square silver box under the passenger seat that contains the buzzer/horn. I found that out as I was disconnecting the seat belt logic system.
