914 Electrical question

Can anyone tell me why my parking lights come on when the ignition is off and the turn signal switch is activated? I've checked all the wiring and replaced the ignition switch. Everything else functions properly, I just can't imagine this condition to be normal. If I accidentally bump the turn signal switch getting out of the car, the light will drain the battery. The gray wire in the steering column is powered even with the key off. Is that normal?

It's normal. They come on just on one side or the other as a "parking" function.

Make sure you leave the switch in neither left nor right when you turn off the car, and you won't have to worry about it.
