I don't think those fittings will work on the 914. Kind of a shame to cut them off...

Hose assemblies are specifically made to order for each application. You tell me what is needed and that is what I will deliver. Custom hose with AN6 crimped fittings without adapters are readily available..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1665833011.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1665833038.jpg My hoses are Metric and E-85 Rated and are the best I can buy from Germany. They are considered "as factory" or better by those who know my products. Len :) |
Happy New Year!
While home visiting my family for Christmas Michigan decided to taunt us with spring, so that meant working on the 914 a bit before returning to Arizona. We threw a battery in the car and turned the key and we got the motor to turn over, so it's not frozen. Turned over pretty slow though, so we figured the starter or solenoid needed some work. Took it to our local starter guy and they're going to put it through a full rebuild. The solenoid needed some love and the brushes inside the motor were pretty worn. My dad is hoping to get that back this week. I also included some more pics from underneath since everyone was curious about the amount of rust on this car. The mufflers are completely rotted out due to Michigan's lovely use of salt on the roads. Fortunately everything else is pretty clean underneath. The original owner told us she had the dealer coat the underside as soon as she bought it. Looks like between that and garaging it the entire time she owned it helped to save the car. Worst spot is for sure the battery tray. My dad is considering just flipping the car if he can get it to run, but I'm trying to get him to go through a few more things before letting it go. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672587692.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672587692.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672587692.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672587692.jpg |
Got the rebuilt starter in. The engine now turns over fine, but it looks like there's no spark and no fuel. So off to troubleshoot we go!

You might need some duct tape on the muffler before you flip it

It's been several months since my last post. Earlier this month I was able to travel home and help my dad with the 914. After 38 years of sitting in a garage not only does the car run, but it drives! (See video link below)
https://youtu.be/7r9RglR9FuM After all that time all it took was rebuilding the starter, replacing the points in the distributor, and replacing the fuel pump. We only drove the car a few times around the block since it's still on the original fuel lines, original tires, and such. But great progress nonetheless. Oh, the first time it started it shot dog food out of what was left of the muffler. Thanks little critters. lol |
