Question burned throttle, clutch, speedo cable

I recently had C&R of L.A. install my 3.0 and even though they assured me that the reason for the sticky throttle was because of a critical bend. I later discovered that the cables under the car had melted due to the heat caused by the headers. How can I prevent this from happening again? The cables are routed near the center of the vehicle. Is there a protective wrap or something I can use?

Thanks,
David

I wrapped my speedo & clutch cable with a sheet of welder's barrier cloth (purchased at Home Depot), along with some aluminum tape. Seems to be doing the trick.

Drive faster??? (more cool air rushing under the car)

Loosen the front bolts on the valve covers slightly (bathe the cables in hot oil...cooler than exhaust and it lubricates!)

Seriously, there must be some kind of thin/flexible heat shield like material (aluminum foil?) that may keep some of the radient heat off... but routing the cables down the middle is the best I can think of. Others undoubtedly have better ideas.

Look for a product called "Fire Sleve" and get enough to cover all the cables from the firewall back. I had to finally use two layers to keep the heat away from mine. What kills it is when you stop and turn off the engine and there is no air cooling the cables. God luck.

Did they attach the tranny ground strap? If not, the cables often are the primary ground return, heating up and melting the casings. Common problem with the throttle cable. It may be a combination of both radient heat from the headers and resistive heating due to the lack of the tranny ground. Only takes a second to check it.
