Redying Vinyl Interior - WOW!

I purchased some leather and vinyl cleaner and dye from Color-Plus.

http://www.colorplus.com/frameset_products.html

The dye is called SurFlex and they have the exact color match for Porsche black (917).

It was very easy to clean the vinyl (rollbar pad, dash, lower dash, windshield trim). The cleaner removes all residue, grease, wax, oil, Amorall, etc.

Then you brush or spray on the dye (I purchased their fine 1" natural bristle brush).

All I can say is that the pieces look brand new. I have a new dash top and I compared the old trim pieces to the vinyl on the new piece and it is an exact match. The pieces look brand new again. :trophy:

Not the sofa... that's a placemat.

The couch is leather (burgundy). I wouldn't want to stain the leather and end up with a black couch!

"Fletcher" is well, Miles..........staining everything in sight, I might add. You'd be amazed at how good a wet turd being brought forth feels on the chest until you realize that it is a wet turd being brought forth on the chest!!!!!!!!!! I am not doing the door panels as I am not using my basketweave. Did you see the picture above for the comparison? The basketweave should turn out just as nice.

I purchased Surflex Black (917) and the cleaner/degreaser along with a 1" fine brush. That's it.

I ordered the smalled container and have only used about 1/8 of the container to do the lower dash, the rollbar pad, the windshield side bolsters, the rollbar side bolsters (coat hook area) and the targa top pad.

I imagine one of the smallest containers could do an entire interior no problem.

Karl,

Would you suggest this product as a solution to the fading color of the exterior top surface of the targa?

TIA - Mike

I'm not sure about weather resistance. I'm not a dealer, just a 914 owner.

You might call them and ask!

Mike, the tops are painted, we have been talking about that recently.

If your texture is good, it just needs a good scuffing, cleaning, and some paint.

M,

Thanks - I did a search in the forum and read the posts. I think I will have it painted - satin black.

The top is in great shape - all the texture is perfect - no cracks - just kinda dull.

Thanks!

Mike

There's a product called "Black Again" that may work well on the top. It is supposed to work well on plastic and vinyl. I think "Forever Black" also has a good rep.

Others have used black shoe polish, but it does tend to get on anything that comes in contact with the roof...

A San Diego concours winner suggested using "Black Chrome" to redo the bumper pads, targa tops, rubber, etc. That plus a run of wax over the top seems to really bring back my targa.
