I am in the middle of moving to Alabama and am also involved with a 914 conversion (massively delayed). So this weekend, I got the 914 onto a transporter and moved it to it's new temp-orary home in a real rural area. After getting it off the transporter, we used a John Deere to tow it to it's storage area!
Am I real country or what :-) |

You'll also need a washing machine for the front porch. It doesn't need to work.

and free range chickens... don't forget those... and atleast one of the cars on block MUST be a camaro... an undesirable year is preferred... '82 is popular to fill this item!
appearing on an episode of Cops in a wife-beater is a super bonus too!

Hey, at least we aren't Mississippi! OOPS! Aint Mississippi. Actually, Alabama is not as bad as it's reputation. We have had to face our demons. Where are you moving to? North Al? Middle? LA (lower Alabama, there is even "East LA")?. Welcome!

efeinsmith, you'll now need to purchase at least one broken TV. So that you can put your TV on top of a broken TV.
Actually, what you need to do is dig up some Jeff Foxworthy tapes (whut're CDs?) and use them as pointers for your new way of life. ![]() --DD

I think you have to take the tube out of the TV and put in plastic plants, small ceramic figures and collectables from your last visit to Graceland before you put the new TV on top.
Stop at the Visitors center on I65, I think they had a brochure on what is all required for lawn decorations when you move to Bama. I know they had one in the Visitors Center on the Tennesse side when I was there last month. Do directions to your new place start with "turn off the paved road"?

Bama
They just paved the road I'm on about 1 yr ago.....its a 1 lane numbered county road (not one lane in each direction, 1 lane in total!).
Actually it's pretty county, without the stresses of metro Atlanta. |

You forgot about those lawn gnomes....
And the air windmill art And the wooden old woman stooped over in the garden thangs Oh, and a "classic" rural mail box, complete with an RD or RFD address On the Foxwood tapes - My sister gave me a copy of "LA Story" to help me understand living in San Diego, just before I moved out. That movie is a classic and should be viewed by anyone considering a move to Southern California. Good luck in the new place. I bet the "locals" won't understand your love of German automobiles. "Porrrsh? Ain't that there one of them VW thangs? Why don't you put your time into sumpthang wurthy, like a Camaro? Or a FIREBIRD! Now thars a great car! I remember when my brother, my cousin and one-o-his friends was in this camaro. We pull of along side some sum'***** from t'uther county..." James

Lake Weiss? Near Scottsboro maybe? I'm in Huntsville. The drive from Huntsville to Atlanta (through Scottsboro, then Mentone, Menlo, Summerville/ Adairsville). Perfect 914 drive over mountains, through valleys, with twisties. Now make sure you cover your furniture with plastic covers and get ya a big'oldawg.

A large rusty satellite dish is a nice touch also. It doesn't need to work either.

So how far away is the nearest cattle farm. We live next to a dairy. There's nothin like the smell of fresh cow manure in teh morning.

You might be a redneck .......
No milk jug but I did once rope tow a VW chassis with the MC reservoir just plugged into the MC and a 2x4 holding up the streering column. Also had a milk crate for a seat :-) Got pulled over, but had a dealer plate hanging off the transaxle and when asked by the cop, did tell them that the steering and brakes did work! He shook his head and let me go.

Was the Deere in good shape? If so you're not country. When I realised that a clutch job on my 924S was beyond my abilities and that the trailer ramps were too steep to push the car on, I used an almost ancient Farmall tractor to pull the car onto the trailer. Stalled the tractor twice and it smelt like burning oil the whole time.
