Socal 914 drive?

Hey out there in Southern Cali...

The Ensenada run is ON!

Here are the details:

Sunday June 29th is the day.

We'll be meeting at Dairy Mart shopping center at 9am to get the insurance thing together and then down past the border for some fun.

Esenada is less than 1 hour south of the border. The inital run down the Super highway will take about 1/2 hour. Then we will head down on Highway 1. The return run will be on the Superhighway. The run back from Ensenada on the superhighway is about as nice as CA 1 in Monterrey - not to be missed.

Initial run in caravan down to La Fonda. Leave La Fonda in 30 second intervals down old Highway 1 to Ensenada - Meet at Senor Frogs or Papas and Beer for lunch. Head back up to San Diego in the Afternoon - test the air cooling capacity of our cars as we sit in the boarder traffic....

Thanks to red-beard for the route plan.

On the weekend of the 21st and 22nd the vintage cars are racing at the CA Speedway in Fontana. Last year there were over 300 old guys driving old cars and some pretty fast machines showed up.

Last Saturday up on Palomar mountain I saw about 10 to 15 356's all in a row driving up S7. There are some great roads in that area for some "sporty" driving.

How about the 27th and a run down Mexico 1 to Ensenada? And I mean the old highway 1, not the super higway. If you turn off the super highway at La Fonda and then go south on Highway 1, there are some fun mountain roads.

I'm in, just keep me posted when and where. My car should be done this weekend (Today). I really want to get it out and drive it around. We finally got some sun here so it should be a great drive. Keep me posted Mike.

If Red Beard is buying at OKE DOS or Senor Frogs - I'll go to Ensenada.

Ron - I thought you were dead.

Bring down a running car, which you're willing to crash.

Or, you could buy that one from Minnesota and drive it....

James

Oh, yeah, I'll buy you some beers. Dos mas, por favor!

Was gonna buy the GT1, but I have a running "puke yellow" '73 2.0L - Did California Speedway Laps at the Speedfest Road Course - 110 MPH into Turn 1 off the banking (now go slow - SURE! - didn't blow it up - yet - slightly overrevved it Uh Huh - haven't wrecked it - yet. I did waste a couple of motor mounts, but........ It might make it to MX - Dos Cervesas Frio con Tequila - Por Favor - Ah hell - forget the beer, Gimme the glass and a bottle...... on second thought forget the glass.

Gotta time it with the arrival of the Cruise ships - lots of "lonely women" and after the bottle, even I look good.

I ain't dead - just lying low.

Well, I've never been down into Mexico honestly.

I'm worried my insurance won't cover my down there, I'll have to check.

Regardless, when's a good time for each of you?

How about a drive up to Julian(San Diego county)? No beer but lots of apple cidar or homemade pie! Plus great twisty roads with a mountain top view through the tall pines.

Isurance is not a problem. You buy a 1 day policy at the border (USA side, Dairy Mart Rd), or you can do it ahead of time if you are a AAA member. Cost is about $20.

Well, that's cool - just like any good 914 owner - I'm a member of AAA.

So how far into Mexico would we be going?

Cool The Plan !!! Soooo - Who's in ???

About 100 KM (That's 60 miles for you gringos...).

Esenada is less than 1 hour south of the border. The inital run down the Super highway will take about 1/2 hour. Then we will head down on Highway 1. The return run will be on the Superhighway or we can run up Highway 3 to Tecate. This nice thing about highway 3 is that we end up in Rancho San Diego when we cross the boarder, with some really nice twisty curvy roads.

There is also a vineyard between Ensenada and Tecate (Cetto).

Maybe this will be a second trip....The run back from Ensenada on the superhighway is about as nice as CA 1 in Monterrey - not to be missed.

OK - so lets start planning this out. I would say an early morning meeting on Sunday the 29th at the Dairy Mart shopping center for those who will need to get Mexican Insurance. Meet at 9AM and plan to leave for the Border at 10AM.

Who's in ???

Ok James - I'm in for the Baja Run (no pun intended). My '73 runs at the botton of the red range on the temp meter so I'm gonna have to inspect the oil cooler and stuff to see if anything is making a home down there. Don't wanna puke it in jalpeno territory. My four is gonna chase your six- Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!~.

It would be nice if it were Saturday, but I've been to Ensenada on Sat and it wasn't pretty.

Now that I have a J O B I will have to consult with my schedule. I think that I'll have it off.

I wanna go too!!!! I have to replace some lifters in my car before I go and am hoping to get to that next week. I am still a little leary about taking my baby south of the border though. I still needs to be color sanded and buffed but it looks ok for now. I will know more this next week. Keep me posted and if anyone is going down the 5 that I can follow down let me know. Here she sits in my driveway.
