weight of 914 less drivetrain?

need to figure out if a 914 less engine and tranny will be a low enough weight for my snowmobile trailer. I'm guessing it's around 1,600lbs w/o that stuff, which would be OK. Thanks - Will

Well, I'm not sure of the exact weight, but when I had to move my '73 (no wheels, engine/tran, or front susp. at the time) to get a new fridge in the house, me and 4 buddies (one on each fender, and one to move the jack stands) picked it up and moved it with no problem, and there wasn't any "Arnolds" in the group. I almost find it hard to believe that the car is supposed to have a curb weight of around 2000lbs! If you were just moving it locally (but then I have no idea of the axle rating on your trailer is) it "might " be alright, but if you plan on doing any highway hauling I'd get a trailer made for the job.

The 914 is basically around 2150 lbs fully assembled, the engine is around 350 lbs, the tranny is about 80 lbs, that leaves 1720. Loose the spare tire, that saves more. Strip some other stuff out, you could get to 1600 lbs.
Taking off the hood, trunk, engine lid and doors you would be there for sure. The 74 doors are fairly heavy.

thanks. I should have said it's an early 72 I'll be getting, less most of the interior; I'll throw the top and other loose stuff in the tow vehicle, so I may be able to get it down to 1,600. That or rent a tow dolly if an alternate plan falls through. wd

The 72 doors are a little lighter, i'm not sure but prolly around 25# each.
Still, you're looking at around 1700# unless you start unbolting stuff besides the drive train.

BTW, trailers are under rated for safety reasons, I don't know how much safety factor they put in.
