Center Console Wiring Question

I just bought a used center console for my '73 which has never had one installed. When I pulled up the carpeting under the shifter I found the factory center console connectors. What a dashed convenience. All the wire colors matched the wires on the console and when I plugged the console in everything worked except the temp guage.

There's a wire coming from a round plate on the bottom of the engine pan that goes through the sheet metal on the LH side near the injectors that dead ends at that point with a spade connector. I suspect that this is the temp sensor that is supposed to actuate the temp guage. Is this correct? If so, where does it connect into the wiring harness?

There should be a connector on the passenger side that is green with a black stripe I think. It connects to that. It should be easy to find. If you cannot find it there I am sure you can find it over by the relay board. That is where we had to hook up a friend of mines.

On mine the connector comes out of the bundled wires on the right side under the battery tray. Look over there and see if there is a connector spade sticking out of the bundle.

Done deal! Found it, connected it, watched it work, sat back and smiled.

Thanks for the help...

I envy you! I just did the same to my car. (Center Console)

I found the green wire by the battery, but there is no place for the temp gauge to hook up to. I've heard that the factory spot to hook up is on the "taco plate" which I think I have found but I'm not positive (looks like where the dipstick goes on a type 4 vw??).

I'm probably going to install the sensor on the bottom of the engine where the extra "mystery 3" plate" is.

oil temp. gauge

That 3 inch Mystery Plate is where the taco plate is , if you have a wire comming from it you allready have the taco plate installed if not you can pick a new one up or used. Better do next time you change oil. Also you mite investagate the newer gauges VDO, that give a exact(?) temp reading. If you need help with gauges ,I can be of help, sorry no taco plate.
