Alternate Evap. coil location....

Has anyone attempted to mount a A/C evap. coil in the fresh-air blower box (the one in the front trunk)? Seems to me that it could be doable if you got the right size coil, then the cold air would come out of the stock vents and I wouldn't have to change my center console. As for the condenser coil, I was thinking of using one out of a '92-'95 honda civic (relatively small, square, and comes with a fan and shroud) and mounting it in a similar location as the oil cooler installation described on the PP tech tips board, above the tranny. You'd still have to run liquid and suction lines up to the front trunk, but at least the trunk floor would still be intact.......just a thought.

You may get one to fit in the location you described but unless you look at the entire A/C system you may run into problems.

Believe it ot not..the dealer installed system had some thought go into the sizing of the coils and the evap valve.

I would be more tempted to use the OEM evap and fabricate a sheetmetal box to house the evap and try to hide it below the dash. You could then duct into the fresh air blower.

Another thing you can try is to turn the fresh-air blowen upside down and cut a hole below it. Mount the evap (in a box) in the car and the fresh-air blower will now draw cool air into the air stream. Make sur eyou still use the A/C blower to get the correct CFM across the evap.

Cheers
Kerry (Soon to have A/C)
