72 Seatbelt cutoff question
Does the 72 have a seatbelt cutoff that won't let it start unless the seatbelt is latched? If yes how do I get around it. I am going to use a set of 3" 4-point harnesses so I need to find a solution soon. Thanks!

Nope, the 72 should not have that mis-feature. That one should only appear on the 74s, and some early 75s. Though I have heard of at least one 76 which was also afflicted.
Check for two thick yellow wires going to the gizmo under the passenger's seat. If there is no gizmo down there, or if it doesn't have two thick yellow wires going to it, then ti won't affect the starter. --DD |

Thanks for the help Dave. There is no "thing" under the passenger seat, nor any yellow wires. The only reason I asked is because there are wires running from the seatbelt recpticles, and a curley cord running from the drivers seat. So it won't hurt just to cut these wires? Or what should I do to them?

I'd just unplug them. On the 74, there are a bunch of important wires that go to and from the "thing" under the passenger seat. If you unplug the relay (the "thing"), they are unaffected, but they get joined together at the plug for the relay, and simply cutting them without splicing them together will mess things up. Of course, some things should *not* be spliced together. You've got to trace the wiring diagram to figure out which is which.
On the 72, I think the wires are just for the light in the middle of the dash. Unplug them and forget them, unless they *really* bother you. --DD |
