Tranny End Plate/ is there a gasket?
A stud is broken on my end plate (at the rear of the tranny) and I need to do the necesssary repair. Is there a gasket that I will need to aquire? I've looked thru the 914 manual and the Pelican catalog but cannot see where this is mentioned.
Any help will be greatly appreciated (as usual) Also, is there an easy way to get the broken stud out. Chances are (with my luck) the stud will not be extending beyond the case to get a grip on once the plate is removed! bruce

Yes. But....
The gasket between the end cover and the intermediate plate is just that, a gasket. The "gasket" between the intermediate plate and the tranny case is in reality a "shim" and is color coded. You need to identify the color and the thickness before replacing. A gasket set is sold in the tranny section which includes all seals (not a bad idea to replace all the seals while you have it open/apart). And personally, you are only a few more steps away from getting in and replacing synchro's, etc. If you have it open, it's a good idea to check the condition of the synchro's, dog teeth, sliders and bearings. You can buy the individual gaskets if you wish.

James, in all actuallity, I do need to replace the synchros and have been thinking about it thru out the day
If I remember correctly didn't you write up a nice "HOW TO" on this subject? I was sure I'd read it when you posted but, at the time, was not ready to commit to doing a surgical proceedure as overwhelming as this I'm sure I could with blatant instructions and yours seemed to leave nothing to my imagination (which can run rampant at times )I also saw the complete gasket set in Pelicans catalog and thought I really should just bite it and do the order. bruce

Wow! actually posting the "coming out" party
Too bad it's in Baja or I'd try to make it!!! Looked at your site James. Did a search and found your tranny article. Nice job! What scared me was the $2000 to do the rebuild Sure hope I can get away with just doing 2nd & 3rd gears.bruce

Usually it's less. $2300 is to replace everything that is replacable...
