Need FI wiring Ideas (blows fuse)
Hello all,
I don't want to start another holy war, but can I just say how frustrated I've been trying to install this FI motor into a previously carbed car... Man I like the simplicity of my old carbed motor... Anyways that is way off topic. I plopped a (72)1.7 motor into my ex-race car (74)chassis recently. Its all bolted in and plugged in. The motor used to run pretty well when it was in the 72 chassis last year. I don't want to bore everyone, but the just of the problem is that everytime I turn the key on the Fuel pump runs for 1 second and then the 25# fuse on the regulator board blows, shutting off the pump (and I believe the coil also). I've been chasing all of the circuts (heater blower/FI-auxilaries/coil/etc) and can't yet find out where the short is. The pump will run when jumped so I don't think its the pump. My best guess is something related to the relays on the board listed as: "main power" or "heater blower motor". I thought I would start over from square one. The question part: Does anybody have any suggestions, or input. What items have people found that will blow this 25# fuse? tia brant |
The Auxiliary Air Regulator. If the wire to it is touching the engine case (instead of being plugged in, or if the insulation is gone), or if the AAR has a dead short, the fuse will blow. The AAR is fed by the same signal that goes to the pump.

I second what DD says
Had a similar problem many years ago. One of the wires that runs under the AAR toward the dizzy had a bare spot and would intermittantly (sp?) short out the fuse you speak of. Check there first.
