Missing rear caliper part
I could use some suggestions on what to do with my rear calipers. While rebuilding them I noticed the adjustment screw gear (the little gear adjusted from the rear of the caliper) is missing on one caliper. Someone apparently lost it during a past rebuild. Does anybody know of something I can substitute for this part, or can I adjust it by turning the piston gear teeth with a small screwdriver? That's how I got it apart, but I'm afraid without the gear the pad adjustment will not stay fixed. Thanks for any suggestions...

The adjuster simply slides out. You can use the one you have and switch it from caliper to caliper. I don't think they're available separately, so you may have to find yourself a used or rebuilt (or whatever) caliper to raid for that part....
Or maybe you can make one from a gear and a big set-screw? --DD |
Thanks Dave. Moving it from one side to the other should work. Maybe I'll run across a cheap rear caliper to scavenge the part someday (better yet - maybe 911 brakes all the way around).

You must have gotton lucky - they're listed for $25 now. Actually two mistakes were made - charged you only $5 AND they shipped it in a timely manner. Someone must have gotton fired for that screw-up. I can get a complete rear caliper off eBay for $20.
