Another new guy question :
Were these side decals originally an after market thing or did they come out the factory with this decal.... any special type or year of cars ...or better yet color....??? I always see orange ones with the black decal or red with the black decal..... I noticed 2 different type of decal as well...One solid ...and one with the letter Porsche cut out so that Porsche will be whatever the color of your car is I was just curious how some of YOU feel about the decal..... When I looked at the nice 914's in the photo gallery I didnt see not a one with the side decal..... Is it just one of those things a 914 could do without ? I am new and I want the purist look for the most part.... Thanks in advance...

Re: Porsche 914 Side Body Decals (?)

Dealer add-on. Many like them, I like the positive black stripes on plain early orange cars with hubcaps... every Tuesday in May, at 5:11pm. See, my psychosis is very specific. M

More elaboration.
There are 2 types of 914 side stripes: Positive and Negative. Positive stripes are white or black only. These were never installed at the factory on any 914...a dealer or a PO installed item. Available through 1973. In 1974 the Negative side stripes were introduced as part of the Limited Edition package. There are actually two different color sets of Negative stripes. 914 LE cars were the only 914 cars to have the negative stripes installed at the factory, and they came in Sunflower Yellow, Viper Green and Phoenix Red (and orange color). Then Volkswagen of America produced negative side stripes in Black, gold, red, yellow and green and offered them as accessories at the dealers. The red, green and yellow colors are close but not identical to the LE colors. Put whatever youlike on your car...its your choice. There is more info on the side stripes on my website links below. |
