ok nevermind about the fuel pump...
I ran the pump wire directly to the + terminal and it's pumping.. however, I still can't get the car to start... It turns over fine, but doesn't 'catch' and start...
I should have enough juice in the battery - I have jumper cables running to another vehicle. clues?

I took the pump wire off the coil when I connected it to the battery... could the coil be bad? It ran fine one night and the next - zippo. that's when I thought I had the fuel pump problem.

Carbs or FI?
Check the following: Do you have fuel actually getting into the motor? Smell for fuel at the tailpipe, if FI'd you can pu the injectors into jars and actually watch them deliver fuel. Do you actually have spark? Take a spare plug and tape it with the threads on the fan shroud or engine case. Plug one plug wire on to it.. Have someone crank the starter and look for sparks at the plug gap. Do you have compression? Valves adjusted? Decent compression gauge readings? After that, the only things left are the amount of fuel, and the timing of the spark. --DD

didn't have spark... bought a new coil and when I took the old one off, I noticed the positive wire coming from the battery was DETACHED! Must have knocked loose sometime.. everything's fine now.. oh well.. off to the FLAP to return the coil.
