Low End Knock?
 

Hi all,
Recently I've been hearing a "new" sound - but only when it is at operating temp. at an idle. Yes. With the stereo off, wize guy... It sounds similar to a bad throw out bearing. But when I push the clutch in and out (in neutral...) the sound does not change. I don't believe it's valve clearance as they were set about 3k ago & it doesn't sound like loose valves to me. Maybe it's getting about time for a rebuild. I don't know...it runs great and has good power. If I need a rebuild are there different cams available that work well with stock 2.0-F.I? I wouldn't mind a little more power.

Try putting the tip of a big screwdriver against the block, and lean your ear on the handle end. Move the tip to various places on the engine and see if you can isolate where the sound is coming from.

Usually a "rod knock" will only affect one cylinder. Disconnecting one spark plug at a time will tell you if that cylinder is making the noise--when the spark is gone, the knock will disappear.

Web-Cam's #73 grind is mostly compatible with the D-jet FI. You will need to fiddle with the adjustments in the FI system (fuel pressure, idle mixture, and some or all of the MPS adjustments). Do this on a dyno which has a wide-band O2 sensor. Shoot for about a 13:1 mixture at part-throttle, and 12:1 to 12.5:1 at full throttle.
