Red-Beard has sucidial tendencies - he bought and drove a car "built" by an ex-AA employee.

MikeZ is just a barbarian and should be ignored anyway. We have spent years ignoring the Santa Barbarians - they're transients anyway.......,

Steam is clean anyway, if you operate the boiler correctly, which is to say, steam, south of the border, is of questionable quality. I must admit I have never heard of "favored" steam, but then it just might be popular..............Go get 'em Sammy.

Ahhhhh - no imgaes this time AND welcome to page 9.

Hmmmm, maybe....nope.

cruiksdr 01-08-2004 07:27 PM

Or nine... do I see a 10???

Dave at Pelican Parts 01-08-2004 08:01 PM

This reminds me of those idiotic threads I used to see in high school. The max number of posts in any one topic was 99, and periodically people would just post random comments just to increase the reply count...

Heh - Highschool

Very very early e-mail. BBS were in their infancy. The best modems were 300 baud. The phone company was AT&T. And we're talking 80's here....

Dave at Pelican Parts 01-08-2004 08:16 PM

Nope, late 70s. (Well, to early 80s.) But we were a "priveleged" school--we got to use the university's very large multiuser timesharing computer system. It had its own BBSes.

:( oh man, do I feel old. The PC wasn't even invented until I was a junior ($5000 for an 8mhz 8088--fast!). The internet wasn't even a tech geeks wet dream at that point.

Isn't it interesteing, though, that this thread, which is indeed mostly pretty useless (except for those really cool white trash lift boxes:D ) started in response to a request to get rid of the old threads like this?? In effect, a call for censorship of this free flow. Most of what is on this BBS is not only valuable, but invaluable to at least a few some of the time. I think the point that some of us were trying to make earlier was that it would be impossible for anyone (by vote, or consensus or whatever) to decide what will not have value to someone else. Some of the helpful information I've found by searching this board has been 3 or more years old! But when I found it, I was darn glad to have it!

All the http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/puke.gif on this thread only came in response to attempts to illustrate the value of everything here.

10?

red-beard 01-08-2004 08:23 PM

Our Highschool had it's own mainframe. Started off with a PR1ME 300 and graduated my Senior year to a PR1ME 750. About the same time Tom Baker (Dr. Who) became their spokesman.

The 300 was sold off (given?) to a Church...They should have bought an IBM PC...

Toast 01-08-2004 08:23 PM

Sometimes my page numbers show up as 5 pages and sometimes as 9. Ive been viewing this thread at home and at work. Maybe it is the difference in how you have the "number of posts per page" view. (shrug shoulders).

Anywho, gotta go. Have lost my voice. Looks like this kinda text communication will be all I have to communicate with for X (?) time. So ya all better get prepared! :p

Heh.

scg 01-08-2004 08:30 PM

Daniel,

Ooo...overclocking your 8088? I seem to recall they were a blazing 4.77mhz ;)

Now the Commodore PET...THERE was a computer! :D
