SF Bay Area with a 009 distributor?

Anyone here in the SF Bay Area have an unmodified 009 distributor on their car? I've been curious about the centrifugal advance curve on those, and would like to get details. I can drag over my timing light, and use the "advance knob" on it to get a decent idea of advance at a particular RPM.

South Bay (Mt. View/Sunnyvale area specifically) preferred.

Talking about the dizzy.

Anyone played with the set screw and jam nut on some of the vaccuum advance cans?

Does it control the starting vaccuum, the overall advance, what?

How do you know if it's a 009? The last three numbers stamped on the outside housing of mine are "009". However, my dizzy has no vacuum advance as JP alludes to.

What's the consensous as to the best dizzy for a carbed 914? My 1.8 has Webber 44s (PO not me!!!).

I'll be contacting Jim off-line.

The dizzy whose part number ends in "009" is the "009" distributor. The vaccuum cannister reference is probably talking about the stock ones.

Speaking of which, most of the stock distributors are thought to be better for the 914 (carbed or not) than the 009. The 050 is thought to also be good, and the stock 1.8 dizzy is thought by some to be the best. It does have the largest built-in centrifugal advance.

If you can hook up the vacc advance or retard correctly, that's a bonus. The retard will give you a low smooth idle, and the advance may give you a little more "oomph" on transition off idle.
